For 2017 we have put together this private sail just for families with little oceanographers and/or future marine biologists. Join us as we sail the bay in search of Sea otters and Harbor Seals, laugh as we meet the Sea Lions and watch the Pelicans dive from the sky on unsuspecting fish for their breakfast! This is the perfect adventure for new sailors and families to enjoy a relaxing boating experience together while learning about sailing and the ocean environment. On a typical voyage we start by sailing past Smith Rock, a small island in the bay where a family built their home back in 1884. Then we will venture past the breakwater to see the historic Port San Luis Lighthouse before we begin a fun off the wind sail down to the kelp forest of Fossil Point for some great Sea Otter viewing. Along the way everyone will be given the opportunity to steer the boat through the waves as we enjoy wonderful views of Pismo Beach, Avila Beach and the hills of San Luis Obispo. While on this tour we commonly observe Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and a large variety of seabirds. Occasionally Dolphins, California Grey and Humpback Whales will make appearances during our morning sailing adventures with the peak sightings happening from June through the end of August for the Humpbacks Whales. If the whales are anywhere near the bay and you would like to spend your tour sailing with them we are happy to customize the trip for you. Please note that the whales are not always close enough to the port to see on these shorter duration tours.
